The product you are purchasing may be shipped raw. If it is it will patina and rust over time, as all steel will.
If you like the raw steel look but do not want rust, give the piece a light coating of oil, wd-40 or bees wax works great, this may have to be re applied from time to time, however any light rust that forms should wipe right off.
If you’d like to paint the piece, any spray or brush on paint will work. I would suggest applying a primer coat first. Apply a light primer coat you’re just looking for coverage not material build up. Apply the color of your choosing once dry. Several light coats will achieve better results than one heavy one.
If you do want the rusted patina look, have no fear over time a patina will build up on the product, in more humid areas this will happen much quicker. If you’d like to accelerate the process, you can clean the piece with alcohol and give it a good scuffing, then apply either lemon juice or vinegar (earth friendly acids) to the piece.
